In this period of COVID-19, another hero in our midst is the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS). SNAP provides crucial food & nutritional support to households in need. Clients use an EBT card to access SNAP benefits at authorized food retailers. The DHS staff have been processing applications for SNAP at record speed since COVID! Between April 26th through July 10th they received 17,494 applications for SNAP and approved 16,384! Waiting periods for applicants to receive approval & access to an EBT card is 2 - 3 days!
