It’s that time of year again! School is almost out for our keiki… what will they do for the summer? For many of us, the answer is Summer Fun!
Summer Fun is an amazing program offered by the City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation. It is an immersive program for children aged 6-13 that is offered weekdays, 8:30am to 2pm, June 10 - July 26. Many location also offer Before and After care!
For teens 13-17 years old, Summer Fun offers paid Junior Leader positions! The eight-week program with a minimum pay of $16 per hour and work just under 40 hours per week.
The Summer Fun program can accommodate around 10,000 children with a staff of nearly 500 across 60 locations on Oahu.
The program offers a wide range of activities for keiki, including field trips to sites like Hanauma Bay and Kualoa Regional Park. It has of just $25 and an additional activity fees of no more than $100 are charged for extracurricular activities. Families in lower-income areas can apply for a fee waiver.
In the past, many parents (including myself) have woken up early or even camped out to wait in line at our park of choice to reserve a spot for our children. This year registration will be handled exclusively on-line, except for those without computer or internet access.
Registration begins at 5pm on Monday 5/13, starting with District 1 (East Honolulu) . District 2 (West Honolulu) begins Tuesday 5/14, District 3 (Leeward Oahu) Wednesday 5/15, District 4 (Windward & North Oahu) Thursday 5/16, and District 5 (Central Oahu) Friday 5/17, all at 5pm.
