Kahala's Signature Sunday Brunch Has a New Home at the Beach House

The Kahala Hotel & Resort's Sunday buffet now sits in a different room than it did in spring. The resort's calendar lists a "NEW Sunday Brunch Buffet" at Plumeria Beach House, Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at $97 per adult and $49 for keiki ages 6 to 12, plus tax and gratuity. In March the same buffet reopened at Alan Wong's, priced at $115 and $55 and starting at 9 a.m. Since February the resort's best-known Sunday meal has run in three rooms. Each move pushed it further from the formal dining room and closer to the sand.

Three Rooms Since February

The first move came with the end of an era. Hoku's closed after 30 years. Its last Sunday brunch was February 15 and its last dinner was February 20. Aloha State Daily reported that brunch would return on March 29 "with no changes to the current menu selection," and that The Veranda, known for its afternoon tea, would close temporarily during the transition.

Period Where the Sunday buffet ran Hours Adult / keiki price
Through Feb. 15, 2026 Hoku's Not part of this year's listings Not part of this year's listings
Feb. 16 to March 28 Paused for the restaurant transition — —
From March 29 Alan Wong's 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., live music 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. $115 / $55
Current calendar, October onward Plumeria Beach House 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., live music 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. $97 / $49

Alan Wong's opened to the public on April 8. Its menu brings back dishes from the chef's King Street restaurant, including the Ginger-Crusted Onaga with Miso Sesame Vinaigrette and the Twice-Cooked Kalbi-Style Short Ribs. The opening release said the Signature Sunday Brunch would continue there, "with thoughtful enhancements by Chef Alan Wong to be introduced over time."

The resort hasn't announced the second move. The Plumeria brunch menu file on its site is dated 08.30.26, and the calendar entry for the resort's signature Sunday brunch now shows the Plumeria Beach House buffet. Plumeria dates are listed through November 1 and December 6.

What the Move Changed at the Table

The adult price is $18 lower, and the keiki price is $6 lower. Seating starts two hours later, at 11 a.m. instead of 9, and the buffet runs to 2 p.m. The Plumeria buffet promises "elevated brunch classics, fresh seafood, and signature Kahala favorites in an open-air, beachfront setting." The Alan Wong's version listed a prime rib carving station among its features.

The beach house setting comes with its own rules. Plumeria Beach House's dress code reads "Resort wear, shorts and T-shirts acceptable." If you drive in, you get four hours of free parking with a minimum $50 purchase, validated by the restaurant host. That's enough to cover a full brunch for two at the current price.

The OpenTable booking page lists terms worth knowing before you reserve for a group:

  • A 20% service charge is added for parties of five or more.
  • No-show reservations are charged the full $97 per person.
  • "No other menu will be available at this time," so Plumeria serves only the buffet during brunch hours.
  • On the October 11 calendar, seating was offered from 11 a.m., with slots running into the 1:30 p.m. window.

The no-show rule matters most for a large family table. A party of six that doesn't show faces the full $97 per person, or $582, and the 20% service charge for groups of five or more would push the pre-tax total higher.

The Listing That Hasn't Caught Up

The resort's own site doesn't fully agree with itself yet. The Alan Wong's page, dated September 4, still shows "The Kahala's Signature Sunday Brunch" at Alan Wong's, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at $115 and $55. The OpenTable booking link for that brunch now returns a "page not found" error. Alan Wong's OpenTable profile lists hours of Tuesday through Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m. The restaurant page lists the same dinner hours.

Taken together, every booking path the resort currently runs leads to Plumeria Beach House. The resort hasn't said whether the Alan Wong's brunch has ended or will return in another form. The surest check is the restaurants line at 808-739-8760 before a birthday or a visit from out-of-town family.

Plumeria Beach House Now Hosts the Whole Sunday

The brunch move matters beyond one meal because Plumeria is where the rest of The Kahala's Sunday calendar was already happening. The beach house serves its daily breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Sunday brunch buffet follows at 11, with live music until 2:30. Recent Sunday performers listed by the resort include Liam Moletta on September 20 and Alika Souza on September 27.

On the first Sunday of each month, the same room hosts the evening as well. Hawaiian 105 KINE's Kanikapila Sundays is presented by the Kahala Initiative for Sustainability, Culture and the Arts, known as KISCA, with Summit Media. It pairs live Hawaiian music with the resort's Hawaiian-inspired Pāʻina Buffet. Tonight, October 4, Hoʻokena performs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Today is also the last day of Plumeria's Oktoberfest lunch menu, which ran from September 19.

With Alan Wong's serving dinner Tuesday through Saturday, the signature dining room is dark on Sundays. On the first Sunday of the month, the beach house now runs from breakfast through brunch and into the evening music. The resort's newer evening events are also scattered across the fall calendar:

  1. "An Evening of Remarkable Spirits with Drew Mayville," October 14 at 5:30 p.m.
  2. "Cigars Under the Stars," October 22 at 6 p.m.
  3. "Howl-O-Ween Yappy Hour," October 31 at 4 p.m.

Up Waialae Avenue, the Earlier Shift

At the other end of the neighborhood, Sunday starts earlier. Zippy's Kāhala at 4134 Waiʻalae Ave. reopened at 6 a.m. on July 7 after nearly four months of renovation. It's open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily for dine-in and takeout. Zippy's said most of the work was behind the counter. The changes customers will notice are a refreshed interior and the chain's food locker system for pickup orders. The reopening came during Zippy's 60th anniversary year, which has included an exclusive aloha shirt made with Kāhala.

Kāhala Mall at 4211 Waialae Ave. fills the late morning. Many tenants in the store directory list Sunday hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Waiwaolani opened its first Oʻahu shop there on June 20, in the former Fighting Eel space on the ground floor, selling apparel from a Native Hawaiian-owned Maui brand inspired by local native species. Vince's Cafe, near CorePower Yoga, serves bánh mì, vermicelli bowls and Vietnamese coffee. According to KHON's July 28 segment, its 8 a.m. breakfast runs Monday through Saturday, so it's a weekday stop rather than a Sunday one.

Here's a Kahala Sunday on the current calendars. Zippy's opens at 6 a.m., the mall around 10, and the Plumeria Beach House buffet seats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On first Sundays, Kanikapila runs at the beach house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The next one is November 1.
